Create Baseline and Current Schedule

Create Baseline

A Baseline in Safran Planner is a copy of each activity's Early Start and Early Finish dates at the time of the Baseline. You can set a Baseline at any given time, but company policies can be a factor here. To establish a Baseline in Safran Planner, you use the functionality called Set Comparison Dates from the Project tab. In the window of Set Comparison Date, you check the checkbox for baseline schedule before you click OK. Doing that will give you an updated Baseline Early Start and Baseline Early Finish date for the project plan activities.

If you prefer to set the Baseline for a specific subset of activities in your plan, Safran Planner offers flexibility. Before entering the Set Comparison Dates window, you can select those activities (ensure the Selected Rows option is checked), or you can create or use a stored filter. This feature allows for more targeted planning and tracking in Safran Planner.

How to set comparison dates for Baselines or Current Schedules

Setting a Baseline enables using Baseline Dates for symbols in your Barchart Editor/Gantt diagram or Editor histogram. Using the baseline dates on symbols, you can visualise your Live plan (Early Start/Early Finish dates) with the situation at Baseline and see if you are ahead or behind.

Create Current Schedule

In addition to the Baseline, Safran Planner provides a built-in type of schedule called the Current Schedule. The Current Schedule serves as a reference point for comparing the Baseline (baseline start/finish) and the Live plan(early/late dates). This comparison is a valuable tool for evaluating project progress in Safran Planner.

Companies have different policies regarding the Current Schedule. Most companies typically update the Current Schedule when setting the Baseline and reporting progress. However, it is mandatory to use the Current Schedule if you want to display/use the Frontline feature of Safran Planner.
