Project Groups

Many companies operate in a multi-project environment, handling several projects simultaneously. With Safran Project software, you can handle projects of varying size and complexity, and at different points in the project lifecycle, with confidence.

Portfolio Management possibilities

A Project Group in Safran Project is a powerful tool that allows you to manage multiple projects with ease. It's a collection of individual projects processed, analysed and reported on as if it were one single entity, giving you strong portfolio management possibilities.

  • Assessing resource loadings across projects
  • Evaluating whether additional projects may be taken on board
  • Establishing an optimum schedule for all projects based on resources available to the company rather than the project
  • Producing portfolio reports across multiple projects

Behavior in a Project Group

A project may be a member of none, one or more Project Groups.

Safran Project uses the Timenow and time analysis options assigned to each project during project analysis.

However, all projects within a Project Group should share a standard Userfield Set and Resource Set. Creating a Project Group from Projects with differing Userfield and Resource Sets will result in inconsistencies and should be avoided. To avoid this problem, the decision to use Project Groups should be taken as early as possible, and a company standard Userfield Set and Resource Set should be agreed upon.

Creating a Project Group

Creating a Project Group is a straightforward process that you can easily master.

  • In the FILE ribbon, select New>Project Group and click Next. Also, you can use Ctrl + N.
  • Enter information and specify standard data sets.
  • Set scheduling options for the Project Group under the Options tab (important for resource levelling).
  • Include specific projects by dragging them into the Project Group.

Working with a Project Group

You open a Project Group like an individual project, just using the Project Groups tab instead of Projects.

In most cases, the methods of manipulating multiple projects are the same as a single project.

As for individual projects, the Barchart Editor and Project Editor can be used to input and update activities. As an additional option, the project name can now be selected as a field to view, filter, sort and report on.

Reporting options with Project Groups

The Activity Barchart, Histogram / S-Curve, Progress Summary and Bulls Eye reports are compatible with Project Groups. The Bubble Chart is available to Project Groups only. You can also create Barchart Editor layouts and Histograms.
