Resources

Adding Resources to Activities

You would use the Resource View of the Barchart Editor to manually add or edit resources on activities. You can open the Resource View from the menu View->Resource. You select the activity in the activity list. You add a resource to the activity by right-clicking in the left section of the resource view and choosing New Resource. Choosing New Resource will add a new resource line to the selected activity; then, you can edit the content of the resource.

Maintaining the Resource

Resource: Give you a drop-down list of all the resources defined for your project. Select the appropriate resource, then choose Type.

Planned QTY: This is where you input the quantities for the resource. If the resource is of type total, the number used here is the fixed quantity of the resource for that activity. If, on the other hand, the type is Per Unit. The value input to Planned QTY here is the base quantity that will change based on the duration of the activity.

Unit rate: Adding a unit rate to the resource is possible. The unit rate here is multiplied by the total quantity to get the cost for the amount. This unit rate will override the unit rate you may have defined in the resource definition.

Planned Cost: This is where you input the cost for cost resources. If the resource is of type total, the number used here is the fixed cost of the resource for that activity. If, on the other hand, the type is Per Unit, the value input to Planned Cost here is the base cost that will change based on the duration of the activity.
If the resource is a quantity resource, the planned cost will hold the calculated value of the total quantity * unit rate. The field will be read-only.

Expended QTY: this is where you can input the expended quantities on a quantity resource as a measurement of progress. (To input progress, remember you can also add Expended QTY as a column in the Barchart Editor, which might improve the speed of the manual progress input.)

Expended Cost: This is where you can input the expended cost on a cost resource to measure progress. (To input the progress, remember that you can also add Expended Cost as a column in the Barchart Editor, which might improve the speed of the manual progress input.)

Delay: This is used to adjust the working start point for the particular resource relative to the Early Start date of the activity.

Duration: This is used to adjust the duration for a particular resource, which can be different from the activity duration.

Profile: This is used to add a predefined profile to your resource.

Calendar: This is used to add a particular calendar to a resource if the resource calendar deviates from the calendar used by the activity.
